A Thorn in My Side

There are so many theories about the purpose that thorns serve in relationship to flowers. One function is protection. Thorns are thought to prevent insects and small animals from climbing the tree and, therefore, preventing the flower from being eaten. The second important function is survival. According to this theory, the shape of the thorns allows the plant to attach to other trees and vegetation in order for the flower to get closer to the light. Amazing! The thorns in our lives could be seen as protective and necessary. Our trials, thorns, are sometimes protection from something far worse. God often teaches us survival skills through trials. Also, our trials (our thorns) enable us to grow closer to God (the light).
